We are seeking an experienced and strategic-minded professional to join our reputable European Bank as the Head of Collections & Recoveries. This vital role requires a seasoned individual who possesses a deep understanding of lending and credit card products, with a proven track record of effectively managing and optimizing collections processes and strategies. The successful candidate will lead a dynamic team, shape collections strategies, and collaborate across departments to ensure the bank's credit card portfolio remains healthy and profitable.

Main Skills Required:

  • 8+ Years’ Experience in E-Commerce Collection Management and Execution within the Financial Services Industry.
  • Familiar with the German Financial Services Market.
  • Creative and Innovative in the way you come up with solutions and drive business transformation.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to grow, inspire and develop high performing teams.
  • Excellent Communication and Stakeholder Management Skills.

Core Responsibilities:

Collections Strategy Development: Develop, implement, and continuously refine collections strategies for the Credit Card Portfolio in alignment with the bank's overall business goals and risk appetite.

Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and inspire a diverse team of collections professionals, fostering a culture of high performance, collaboration, and professional growth.

Risk Management: Monitor and manage delinquency rates, credit losses, and recovery rates within established targets, identifying emerging trends and implementing proactive measures to mitigate risks.

Data Analysis: Utilize advanced data analytics to identify patterns, assess portfolio performance, and make informed decisions to optimize collections efforts.

Segmentation and Prioritization: Develop segmentation strategies to prioritize collections efforts, tailoring approaches to different customer segments based on risk profiles, delinquency stages, and other relevant factors.

Process Enhancement: Continuously improve collections processes, workflows, and tools to enhance operational efficiency while maintaining compliance with regulatory guidelines.

Stakeholder Collaboration: Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including credit risk, legal, compliance, and customer service, to align collections strategies and share insights for comprehensive risk management.

Vendor Management: Oversee relationships with external collections agencies and service providers, ensuring their performance aligns with the bank's expectations and standards.

Reporting and Communication: Provide regular updates to senior management on portfolio performance, collections metrics, key initiatives, and potential areas of concern.

Innovation: Stay abreast of industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in credit card collections to drive innovation and maintain a competitive advantage.

Person Skill Requirements:

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to effectively influence others.
  • Commercial, with a strong customer focus and customer awareness.
  • Innovative, with a commitment to deliver measurable results and a proven ability to manage projects to successful completion.
  • Proven track record of at least 8-10 years in Lending and Credit Card Collections, with a minimum of 3-5 years in a leadership role.
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Economics, Business Administration, or related field; Master's degree is a plus.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to interact with diverse stakeholders.
  • In-depth knowledge of Credit Card Portfolio in respect of Collections Strategies, Regulations, and best practices.
  • Strong analytical skills, with experience in data-driven decision-making and leveraging analytics for portfolio management.
  • Excellent leadership and team management capabilities, with a track record of building and motivating high-performing teams.
  • Strategic mindset, capable of translating business objectives into actionable collections strategies.
  • Familiarity with industry-standard collections software and tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing market conditions and regulatory environments.
  • Fluency in English; proficiency in additional European languages is advantageous.
  • Professional certifications in credit risk management and collections are a plus.
  • Ability to manage projects and budgets and to organize and plan workload effectively.
  • You will be a competitive person who enjoys pressure and works best in a result’s driven role.
  • Must have experience in managing high performing growth teams.
  • Ideally Fluent in English and German - spoken and written. (German not Essential).
  • Happy to relocate to Malta.
